It can happen when your device has an option to charge battery via USB. The solution is to connect a card reader instead of camera, take the memory card out of camera, insert it into the card reader and backup directly from the memory card.

Yes, You can manually point to a folder containing source media files. Go to Settings->Custom Media Source preference where you can browse through the whole file system and select a directory. In this case you could select /mnt/sda1. Avoid selecting directly DCIM folder.

There is an option available on the menu Delete backup set. Select the checkbox next to the name of the backup set you want to delete. Swipe a shape on the next screen (for confirmation that you know what you are doing) and deleting will start. All backup files and track records in internal database will be deleted.

Mirroring is a feature allowing you to make a parallel backup on other storage. Most of the modern phones and tablets are equipped with the internal memory over 8GB and additional slot for external SD card up to 32/64 GB. This makes an excellent opportunity to spread the backup across two storages just in case your SD card has failed. Moreover, you may have a special SD card which you insert only for making backup and keep it safely somewhere else.

First time loading is slow because of scaling down usually huge image files. Once finished, thumbnails are stored in a cache (you can increase cache size on Settings screen). Next time you visit review screen, thumbnails loading will be fast - taken directly from a cache. You can disable loading thumbnails altogether - there is an option on Settings screen. This way you significantly improve battery life.
